🇯🇵 Japan, Lived Slowly: A 14-Day Journey Through Tokyo, Kyoto & Osaka

A First-Time Experience, As a Couple With Real Moments, Real Adjustments, and the Beauty In Between

    I’m writing this today…

    and I can honestly say:

We are still not over Japan.

There’s something people don’t tell you before going.

    It’s not just a trip.

It’s something that stays with you after.

    The way people move.

    The way everything is clean.

The details. The respect. The silence.

    Even now, back in Bali…

We still talk about it almost every day.

    We’re still impressed.

    Still in love with it.

    And we already know:

👉 we will definitely go back.

Because Japan is not a place you fully experience once.

️ Before You Even Start The One Thing That Changes Everything

The moment you land, do this:

👉 Get the Suica Card https://www.jreast.co.jp/en/multi/pass/suica.html

    It makes everything feel effortless.

    You just tap:

  1. trains
  2. metro
  3. buses
  4. even small shops

  5. And combine it with

    👉 Google Maps

…and suddenly Japan which looks complicated becomes the easiest country to move in.

🗼 Tokyo Where You Fall in Love Without Realizing

    (7 Days)

Tokyo is not what you expect.

It’s more..Cleaner. Softer. Stranger. More beautiful.

Day One Just Walking, Watching, Feeling

    We arrived and checked into

👉 Hotel Wing International Ikebukuro (~¥8,000–¥12,000/night)

    Quiet area. Calm energy.

    And something we didn’t expect…

Every day, you can take small beauty kits:

  6. skincare
  7. hair oil
  8. toothbrush
  9. masks

  10. It’s such a small detail… but it says everything about Japan.

That first day, we didn’t plan anything.

    We just walked.

And this is where Japan hits you.

    👉 People.

    Everyone looks… cute.

Not in a childish way — but in a very intentional way.

Outfits are styled like anime characters.

    Colors, shapes, details.

You feel like you’re inside a movie.

And something else we kept noticing:

👉 The streets are insanely clean.

    Not “clean”… perfectly clean.

    We walked into

    👉 BicCamera Ikebukuro Main Store

And stayed there almost 3 hours.

    This place is huge.

Like… 7 to 10 floors depending on the location.

Each floor is a different world:

  11. cameras
  12. phones
  13. gaming
  14. beauty
  15. home gadgets
  16. sports
  17. even random lifestyle items

  18. It’s not shopping.

    It’s exploring.

    Day Two: Shibuya, Energy Overload

    We started the day slow.

    Matcha at

    👉 The Matcha Tokyo(~¥600–¥900)

The Matcha TokyoThe Matcha Tokyo Ice Cream

    ⭐ 9/10

    Matcha here is different.

And this is where we realized something…

Matcha in Japan is not “bitter” like people say.

    It’s smooth. Creamy. Slightly sweet.

    Very balanced.

    Then breakfast at

    👉 Bakery Shibuichi

    Bakery ShibuichiBakery Shibuichi Sign

    Fresh, soft, warm bread.

    Then Shibuya Crossing.

    👉 Shibuya Scramble Crossing

    And honestly…

    It’s impressive.

    But also overwhelming.

Thousands of people crossing at once.

    Every light. Every cycle.

We did it once in the day, once at night.

    That was enough.

    Around Shibuya, you see everything:

  19. People dressed like anime
  20. Mario karts driving around
  21. LED lights everywhere

  22. And at night…

    👉 drifting cars.

Tokyo is one of the biggest drifting scenes in the world.

    You feel it.

    Dinner:

    👉 Guzman y Gomez Tokyo

    10/10.

Day Three Donuts, Thrifting & One of the Best Meals Ever

    Morning started with

    👉 Mister Donut Japan

    And I’m not exaggerating…

👉 I craved it every single day.

Soft, fresh, slightly chewy, perfectly sweet.

We went to Ueno / Taito:

    👉 Ueno Taito Area Tokyo

    More local.

    Markets, second-hand shops, slower vibe.

    And then:

    👉 Hard Off Tokyo

    Vintage heaven.

    Dinner…

    👉 Halal Wagyu ramen (Shinjuku)

    💰 ¥2,500–¥4,000

    ⭐ 1000/10

    Expensive… but unforgettable.

Day 4 Moving to Asakusa + Tokyo Nights

    We moved to:

    👉 APA Hotel Asakusa💰 ¥6,000–¥10,000⭐ 8.5/10

    More central. Practical. Clean.

    Night in Shinjuku:

  23. Cat billboard
  24. Godzilla street
  25. tiny bars

  26. This area feels like:

    👉 “real Tokyo nightlife”

    Small streets. Locals. Tourists. Energy.

Day 5 Rainy Day, Unexpected Moments

    We didn’t force the day.

    Went to Akasaka:

    👉 Warner Bros Harry Potter Tokyo💰 ~¥6,300⭐ 8.5/10

Very immersive. Worth it if you like Harry Potter.

    Then something more important happened:

    We met a friend.

    Went to a chocolate shop.

    Then a small roastery café.

    Long conversations.

👉 These moments become your favorites.

    Dinner (Italian):

    📍 Kanda area

    💰 ¥1,500–¥2,500

    ⭐ 7/10

    Good… but not memorable.

    Day 6 Odaiba, Different Tokyo

    We explored:

👉 Symbol Promenade Park👉 Shiokaze Park👉 Aqua City Odaiba

    Modern. Calm. Open.

    Different energy from central Tokyo.

    Shopping:

    👉 Kameido Tokyo Shopping Area

    One of our favorite spots.

Day 7 Asakusa, Culture & Closing Tokyo

    We went back to Asakusa:

    👉 Sensō-ji Temple💰 Free⭐ 9/10

One of the most iconic temples.

    Busy… but still beautiful.

    Matcha nearby:

    💰 ~¥700

    ⭐ 7/10

Good but not the best we had.

Small Details That Stayed With Us

  27. People are introverted but kind
  28. Streets are perfectly clean
  29. Everyone respects space
  30. Dogs in strollers… everywhere
  31. People invest in their pets like family

  32. 👉 We saw more pets than babies.

And that says a lot about the culture.

    💭 Tokyo Feeling

Tokyo is not about what you do.

    It’s about what you notice.

    The details.

    The silence.

    The discipline.

🎎 Kyoto Where Time Slows Down Without Asking (4 Days)

    If Tokyo makes you curious…

    and Osaka makes you enjoy…

    Kyoto makes you feel.

    It’s quieter. Softer. Slower.

And the moment you arrive, you don’t even realize it…

    but your energy changes.

    You walk slower.

    You speak softer.

    You notice more.

Day 8 Arrival & The First Shift

We arrived from Tokyo by bullet train.

    ~¥14,000

    ~2 hours

    Smooth, silent, effortless.

And the moment we stepped into Kyoto…

    everything felt different.

    Less noise. Less rush.

    More space between moments.

We didn’t overload the first day.

We just walked around our area.

    Small streets.

    Quiet cafés.

    Local bakeries.

And one thing we noticed immediately:

👉 Kyoto feels more “traditional Japan”.

    Less futuristic. More emotional.

Day 9 Bamboo Forest & The Reality No One Tells You

    We woke up early.

We thought… we’re smart, we’ll beat the crowd.

    We arrived around 7AM.

    👉 Still crowded.

And that’s when we realized something important:

Kyoto is not about finding empty places.

It’s about finding calm inside busy places.

    We went to:

👉 Arashiyama Bamboo Grove💰 Free⭐ 8/10 (main path), 10/10 (if you explore deeper)

The bamboo path itself is beautiful.

    But honestly?

👉 The real experience is everything around it.

  33. small temples
  34. quiet streets
  35. hidden cafés

  36. The further you walk… the calmer it becomes.

We spent around 4–6 hours there exploring.

And that’s when Kyoto starts to feel special.

Day 10 The Long Walk That Turns Into Something Else

    We went to:

    👉 Fushimi Inari Taisha💰 Free⭐ 10/10 experience

And this is something people don’t explain properly.

    It’s not just a “photo spot”.It’s a full journey.

    At the entrance:

    Crowded. Busy. People everywhere.

But if you keep going…Something changes.

After 30 minutes → fewer people

After 1 hour → almost quiet

    After 2+ hours → silence

We went all the way up.

    Total time:

    👉 ~4–5 hours

    And somewhere in that walk…

You stop thinking about photos. You stop rushing. You just walk.

That’s the real Kyoto experience. Not the entrance.

The part most people don’t reach.

Day 11 The View, The Streets, The Feeling

    We went to:

    👉 Kiyomizu-dera Temple💰 ~¥400⭐ 9/10

This place feels like a painting.

    You stand there overlooking Kyoto…

and everything feels still for a second.

    We tried two times:

    Morning → less crowded

Sunset → more beautiful, more crowded

    Reality?

👉 It will always be crowded.

But somehow… it doesn’t ruin it.

Because the place itself is powerful.

    Then we walked through:

    Higashiyama & Gion

And this is exactly what you imagine when you think of Japan.

  37. narrow streets
  38. wooden houses
  39. soft lights

  40. We didn’t rush.

    We didn’t film much.

    We just walked.

    And honestly?

👉 Those are the moments you remember the most.

    Food in Kyoto (Real Experience)

Kyoto was harder than Tokyo for food.

    Especially halal.

    So we stayed simple:

  41. convenience stores
  42. Bakeries
  43. seafood
  44. vegetarian options
  45. Kebab Turkish
  46. Indian food..

  47. And something we loved:

    👉 Small local bakeries

    They are:

  48. fresh
  49. soft
  50. simple
  51. cheaper

  52. And feel more authentic than trendy places.

Small Details That Stayed With Us

  53. People are even quieter than Tokyo
  54. Movements feel slower
  55. Everything feels more intentional
  56. The city feels… respectful

  57. 💭 Kyoto Feeling

Kyoto doesn’t try to impress you.

    It slowly pulls you in.

    It’s not about:

  58. doing more
  59. seeing more

  60. It’s about:

👉 slowing down enough to feel something

🍜 Osaka Where Japan Becomes Fun Again (3 Days)

    If Tokyo is impressive…

    and Kyoto is emotional…

Osaka is where you finally relax.

    It’s louder. Messier. More human.

And somehow… that’s what makes it so enjoyable.

Day 12 Arrival & The Night That Felt Unreal

We arrived in Osaka without expectations.

And somehow… we landed right into a moment.

There was a cosplay event happening.

People everywhere fully dressed as anime characters.

Not half dressed. Not “inspired by”.

    👉 Full transformation.

    Groups taking photos. Laughing. Posing.

    Music, lights, energy everywhere.

And we just stood there for a second thinking:

    “This is Japan.”

    We headed straight to:

    👉 Dotonbori Osaka

    At night.

    And this place…

    It doesn’t feel real.

  61. Neon lights reflecting in the water
  62. People walking in every direction
  63. Food everywhere
  64. Energy non-stop

  65. But what we loved most?

    👉 You don’t need a plan.

    You just walk.

    Food in Dotonbori (Reality)

Osaka is known as “Japan’s kitchen”.

But if you eat halal… it’s tricky.

    So we stayed smart:

  66. seafood
  67. safe options
  68. simple meals

  69. Because here, a lot of dishes include pork without you realizing.

Day 13 Nara Day Trip (One of the Most Memorable Days)

We took a day trip to:

    👉 Nara Park💰 Free⭐ 9/10 experience

    And at first…It feels magical.

    Deer walking freely.

    Looking at you.

    Even bowing sometimes.

    It’s calm. Soft. Almost surreal.

    But then…You realize something.

👉 They are not shy 😅

If they see food they come.

    Fast.

    Some are gentle.

    Some are… very confident.

    So yes:

    👉 Amazing experience

    👉 But stay aware

And what made it special wasn’t just the deer.

    It was the feeling.

    Open space. Nature. Silence.

    After Tokyo and Kyoto…

    It felt like a reset.

Day 14 Osaka City, Shopping & Hidden Gems

We came back to Osaka and focused on the city itself.

    First stop:

    👉 Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street

    Busy. Lively. Full of energy.

    But the real magic?

    👉 Nishishinsaibashi.

This area surprised us the most.

    Thrift stores here are:

  70. unique
  71. curated
  72. full of personality

  73. You find:

  74. streetwear
  75. vintage pieces
  76. Japanese style you don’t see anywhere else

  77. And honestly?

👉 We liked it more than Tokyo shopping.

    Even more than Ginza.

    Because it feels less “perfect”…

    and more real.

The Viral Spot Worth It or Not?

    We went to:

    👉 A Happy Pancake Osaka

    Waited ~35 minutes.

    Which… in Japan is normal.

    💰 ¥1,000–¥1,500

    ⭐ 7/10

    The pancakes are:

  78. super fluffy
  79. very soft
  80. slightly creamy

  81. Good?

    Yes.

    Life-changing?

    Not really.

    👉 Worth trying once.

Small Details We Noticed in Osaka

  82. People feel more open than Tokyo
  83. More laughter, more noise
  84. Less “perfect” more alive
  85. Fashion is more expressive

  86. And overall…

    👉 Osaka feels more human.

    💭 Osaka Feeling

    Tokyo impresses you.

    Kyoto slows you down.

    Osaka lets you enjoy again.

    And what we loved most?

    There was no pressure.

    No “must-see everything”.

    Just:

  87. walking
  88. observing
  89. enjoying

  90. Final Contrast

After Kyoto, you understand the balance of Japan:

  91. Tokyo → mind
  92. Kyoto → soul
  93. Osaka → energy

  94. 🇯🇵 The Japan Effect Why We’re Not Done With This Country

If we had to describe Japan in one word…

it wouldn’t be “beautiful.”.It would be intentional.

Because everything in Japan feels like it has been thought about.

The way people walk. The way they speak. The way they stand in line.

The way they exist… without disturbing others.

    It’s not loud.It’s not forced.It’s quiet discipline.

And what stayed with us the most wasn’t just the places.

    It was the people.

    They are introverted, yes…

    but not distant.

There’s a softness in how they interact.

A respect that you feel even without words.

    We kept noticing small things:

  95. No one is rushing, even in a busy city
  96. No one is loud, even in crowded places
  97. Everyone is aware of others

  98. And somehow…

👉 that creates a completely different way of living

The Part We Didnt Fully Explore (But Now Want To)

    This trip showed us Japan…

But it also made us realize how much we didn’t see.

Because beyond Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka…

    there is another Japan.

    A quieter one.A deeper one.

The one where people live by something we kept thinking about after the trip:

    👉 Ikigai

    Not chasing more.Not rushing success.

    But living with purpose.

With rhythm. With meaning in small things.

And that’s the Japan we want to come back for.

Not just to travel…But to understand.

    We want to:

  99. meet people who live this way
  100. see how they structure their days
  101. understand how they slow down
  102. learn how they find meaning in simple routines

  103. Because in a world that is always pushing faster…

    Japan showed us something different:

👉 you don’t need to rush to live a full life

Why We Will Come BackNot for the landmarks. Not for the photos. But for the feeling.

Japan gave us something we didn’t expect:

  104. calm inside chaos
  105. beauty inside simplicity
  106. meaning inside routine

  107. And even now…

Back in Bali…We still feel it.

The way we move. The way we notice things.

The way we slow down… just a little more.

    👉 That’s the Japan effect.

    And once you feel it…

You don’t really leave it behind.

    Final Thought

If you’re thinking about going to Japan…Don’t just plan the trip.Leave space.Because the best part of Japan…Is what you don’t plan.

    And for us?

    This wasn’t the end.

    It was just the introduction.
